I’ve decided to declare my independence on July 4th and retire to the garden!

This year there will be real fireworks on July 4th …

I’ve decided to declare my independence and retire to the garden (and the pool, the beach, the kayak, etc.)

My retirement brings a multitude of emotions. Joy, that I will have more time to spend with my wife Carol, traveling and spending time with our children and grandchildren. And a sadness too. Farm, garden, soil, rain, weeds and the seed business has been a huge part of my life since I was a young child. Although I won’t be selling seed, my garden will continue to grow as I have more time to spend with the plants I love.

I want to say a big thank you to all the wonderful people I’ve met along this journey; the customers who have supported New England Seed and those that have worked so hard to make 4 generations of the Willard family so successful in the seed business.

And it’s been quite a journey for New England Seed, from a small CT packet seed company to a major internet retailer shipping over 1,000 different varieties worldwide; we’ve grown together.

To celebrate this milestone, and thank all our loyal customers, we will be offering “Ted’s Fireworks” discounts on our entire inventory over the next 4 weeks, starting today, until I walk out the door on July 3rd.

I hope to still see many of you around CT; in the garden, at the beach, paddling around the coast or at the First Church of Christ in Old Wethersfield.
