This is delicious, small-fruited "icebox" melon developed specially for home gardens. Fruits grow to 8" (20cm) across and weigh about 10 lbs (4.5kg). The flesh is bright red, fine-grained and very flavorful. Plants are small vines producing early enough for short season areas.

Sowing: Direct seed after the last frost when soil is warm. Usually sown in groups ("hills") of 3-5 seeds and thinned to the 2 strongest plants per group. Can be sown indoors 4 weeks earlier.
Care: Water regularly and fertilize when lateral runners begin to spread.
Harvest: When underside turns from white to yellowish. Also, thump the melon; a dull, hollow sound indicates ripeness.
Your Health: A good source of vitamins A and C.

  • (OP) “Icebox” melon designed especially for home gardens but also ships well. One of the sweetest and earliest melons with very small seeds. Fruit grows 8” round and weighs 8-12 lbs. Dark-green rind with bloom over stripes. Flesh is bright-red, fine-grained and very flavorful. Excellent for home gardens and is guaranteed to sell well in markets. Best for New England’s short season. 84 days.

    300 s. 8 days, 70F - 72F. Sow seeds directly into packs of peat pots. Grow on and sell approximately 3-5 weeks from seeding. 3-4 lbs. per acre.
