(Physalis ixocarpa)(3 oz.) This is the largest tomatillo you can grow. It has excellent flavor and is good in salsa. The fruit are apple-green and weigh 3-4 oz. Try it grilled on kebabs. 85 days.
14 days, 75-90ºF. Start early indoors and transplant after last frost or direct seed when soil temperature is above 75ºF. Barely cover seed. Plants grow as sprawling bushes, 2' tall. Harvest when husks start to turn brown and split or fruit drops from plant. Sweetest flavor from letting fruit ripen until it drops off the plant, may even sweeten more if held for a week after it drops from plant. Firmer texture than tomatoes. Much more cold hardy than tomatoes.
