This is the perfect plant for child's garden. The large seeds are easy to sow, sprout quickly and grow into towering strong-stemmed plants topped with massive blooms. Flowers are great for entering into country fair competitions. Plants require minimal care and are useful for temporary screens. Hedges and backgrounds. Harvested seed kernels are edible.

Plant: Direct seed 2-3 weeks before the last spring frost. Firm soil over seeds and keep moist. Small plants can be transplanted with a ball of soil.
Care: Water regularly and fertilize twice during the summer.
Tip: Plants may require staking. Seed heads attract birds to the garden.

Mammoth Russian Sunflowers December 12, 2007

I loved my vegtable garden, but it was the Mammoth Russian Sunflowers (#55099P) that everyone looked at.  They were about 10' tall and one head was 14" across.  If anyone is looking for bragging rights, they should grow this plant.
