A member of the mustard family, Arugula is a sturdy leafy vegetable that is cold tolerant. Pointed, lance-shaped leaves have a strong aroma and a peppery flavor. Arugula is used in salads and sauces or may be steamed as a vegetable.

When and where to plant: Sow seeds in thick rows of moist, rich soil. A light shade garden area is best. Spring plantings are the most desirable—avoid summer plantings.
Care: Keep well-drained. Keep soil weed free and moist, but not soggy.
Harvest: Tender leaves are ready for harvesting in six to eight weeks or entire plants may be cut 2-3" above the soil line (leave the central leaf buds for additional growth)..
