Origano is a perennial and can reach a height of 50 cm. The reddish-colored stem tends to have few branches or thorns. The oval-shaped leaves (2-3 cm by 1.5 cm) have short stalks, which are approx. 1 cm long. The leaves are occasionally serrated. Its small flowers are bunched closely together and form flat panicles. The aroma varies depending on where it is cultivated, the origano grown is southern Italy (widely used as seasoning), has a much stronger aroma than the origano gown in northern Italy.



FROM OUR SEED CATALOG:
  • Widely used in Mediterranean and mexican dishes. Perennial plants grow 60-70 cm. Use the leaves in salad dressings, meatloaf, stews and other meat dishes. Dries easily and retains flavor.

    Seed count per oz. follows each variety. Saleable annual herb plants are ready 6-8 weeks from sowing. Not frost tolerant

Es una hierba perenne con tallos altos hasta medio metro, por lo general poco ramificados, rojizos y prismáticos. Las hojas tienen el pecíolo largo casi medio cm., la lámina dual (2-3 x 1.5cm) entera y con dientes apenas acentuados. Las flores pequeñísimas reunidas en espigas estrechas que forman panatasbatas casi a corimbo. Toda la planta tiene un aroma que varia mucho: el orégano de Italia del norte que se utiliza para sazonar es más fuerte que el que se cultiva en Italia del sur.
