Italian Collection of Vegetable Seed Open PollinatedWhat do these symbols mean?
(Cucumis melo (Cucumis flexuosus var. adzhur))
This is botanically a melon but the fruit tastes like a cucumber and is used like a cucumber. The fruit has crispy white flesh and is easier to digest than true cucumbers. It is bitter free and harvested when 4" long. The fruit is spineless but has downy fuzz that washes off easily. The plants are productive vines and can be grown outside or in the greenhouse. In Italy it is served raw in salads that accompany pasta dishes. If some fruit gets away from you and grows quite large you can use it like a melon. May take a few days longer to germinate than true cucumbers. 60 days.
7 days, 72ºF. Start early indoors and transplant after 3-5 weeks or sow directly outside when soil temperature reaches 72ºF. Cucumbers can be sowed every 3 weeks outside when insect and disease pressure is high.

Sowing: From March to June.
