Noted for spectacular spikes of cup-like flowers some with petals in the shape of a saucer, Canterbury Bells are perfect for the middle to rear of a flowerbed. Colors include white, pink, blue, purple and rose. They look best used in small groups and make good cut flowers.
Plant: Direct sow into well drained soil. In harsh winter areas, sow near mid-July; early September is fine where winters are short and mild. In either case, thin to final spacing 8 to 10 weeks after sowing. Care: Water regularly and fertilize when spring growth begins. Provide support for tall stems. Tip: Biennials bloom the second year, produce seeds and die.
