This cold-weather relative of cabbage is easy to grow, producing a large head. The vitamin-rich head is actually a cluster of tiny flower bud. After the head is harvested, it "sprouts" numerous smaller heads. Sow in early spring or fall, or plant transplants. Delicious fresh, frozen, raw or steamed.

Sowing: Sow seeds in a sunny location in early spring or late summer. For an earlier start in spring, sow indoors 6-8 weeks before transplanting to garden.
Care: Plants prefer a firm soil and just enough water to prevent wilting.
Harvest: Just cut before buds begin to open, 6" (15cm) beneath the cluster of buds.
Your Health: A good source of calcium, phosphorous, vitamins A, B and C and fiber.
