This tight-heads plant produces abundant foliage similar to that of the olive tree and is grown for its tasty tender tops consisting of very small heads and lower foliage. The plants should be cut at the base before they have finished flowering. Their prized tender and bitter tasting tops can be served as a side dish when boiled, stewed or lightly fried.

Sowing: They may be scattered directly outdoors or sown 15-20 cm apart in rows spaced 40-50 cm apart. Ideal sowing time is between August and November.

ESPAÑOL:
Planta con hojas abundantes parecidas alas del olivo y con una inflorescencia apretada. Se cultiva para la producción de cimas de nabo tiernas y sabrosas, formadas por unas inflorescencias muy pequeñas y unas hojas debajo de las mismas. Las plantas se cortan por el pie antes de que hayan florecido completamente. Es muy apreciada por sus cimas muy tiernas y de sabor ligeramente amargo, muy indicadas para la preparación de sabrosas guarniciones, después de haberlas hervido, estofado o simplemente, salteadas.

Siembra: Se efectúa trasplantando directamente, sembrando a voleo o en hilera que disten 40-50 cm. de hilera a hilera y 15-20 cm. en la misma hilera. Indicada para siembras desde agosto hasta noviembre.
