Robust vines that climb like pole beans produce unusual and delicious bright green string less pods up to a yard long with a nutty flavor resembling asparagus. Plants need a long, warm summer, and do best south of the Great Lakes. Cook as you would green beans, or stir-fry. Shell mature pods for dry beans. Freezes well.
Sowing: Direct sow shortly after the last frost, only after the soil has warmed. Care: Water regularly and fertilize when 6" (15cm) tall and again in mid-summer. Provide a strong support or trellis at least 6' (1.8m) tall. Harvest: Though they can reach yard long, pods are far better picked at a length of 12-18" (30-45cm). Your Health: Supplies minerals and vitamins A, C and some B vitamins.
