Few flowering annuals can match the ease in which this popular genus of plants grows. The ruffled, tufted double flowers come in the traditional deep blue, as well as pink, red, maroon, lavender and white. They make excellent cut flowers and also can be massed in beds or borders.
Plant: Scatter seeds in a sunny, well-drained location in early springs where winters are harsh or fall in mild climates. Seeds are best sown directly in the garden since plants do not transplant well. Care: Water moderately. Although they tolerate crowding, plants do best space 6-12 " apart. Plants also will tolerate poor soils. Tip: Self-seeding is common, but volunteers will be smaller.
